Alum Bay sits near the westernmost point of the Island. The famous Needles Landmark sit on the edge of the bay, giving you the best view while staying on shore.
The coloured sand cliffs of Alum Bay are world famous, if you’ve been to the Island before we’re sure most of you have seen a glass jar filled with layers of colourful sand from the bay at some point, once a nostalgic souvenirs from the Island.
The mainly shingle beach is met with crystal clear waters, favoured by locals for swimming and perfect for paddling in. You can access the beach by heading down on foot via wooden steps that take you through a picturesque chine, there is 185 steps so be prepared with plenty of water if you’re visiting on a hot day.
Alternatively, you can take a shortcut to the beach by hopping on the iconic chairlift, the journey down offers some amazing views of the coloured sands below and The Needles ahead.
There is paid parking above the bay, which is free in off peak seasons, you can also jump on a bus to get there, with a bus stop directly on site it couldn’t be easier!
